CNY Cash Counter for Renminbi Notes and Coins

The CNY Cash Counter totals physical renminbi by note or coin denomination. Sort the pieces, enter a whole non-negative quantity in each matching row, and check every subtotal against the cash in front of you. The page and calculator share the reviewed CNY definition and convert yuan, jiao, and fen to integer fen before addition.

Keep the currency code visible beside the yen-shaped symbol

The default notes are ¥100, ¥50, ¥20, ¥10, ¥5, and ¥1. The default coins are ¥1, five jiao, and one jiao. PBC's fifth-series introduction dated 3 March 2010 defines this ordinary set, and the 2019 announcement documents updated designs that circulate at equal value with pieces of the same denomination.

Both CNY and JPY commonly render with ¥, so the three-letter code matters. This page is locked to CNY, uses two decimal places, and treats one yuan as 100 fen. It must not be confused with a Japanese-yen count, where the calculator has no decimal minor unit.

A ¥1 banknote and ¥1 coin have equal value but remain separate physical cash kinds. Count their piece quantities in their own rows so the result can be checked against the note stack and coin group.

Retirement follows the series, not just the printed numeral

PBC's official stopped-currency list dated 29 April 2024 covers entire early series and specified later pieces. Its fourth-series boundary includes ¥100, ¥50, ¥10, ¥5, ¥2, and ¥1 notes, the two-jiao note, and one particular one-jiao coin. Announcement No. 6 of 2018 set 1 May 2018 as the cessation date for the named fourth-series items.

That decision did not retire current fifth-series ¥100, ¥50, ¥10, ¥5, or ¥1 notes, nor the current one-jiao coin. A matching face value is not enough to choose a row when an old series has stopped. Identify the issue first, and keep a retired design outside the Cash Count even though a current piece uses the same numeral.

TheCashCount cannot authenticate a note or coin. Use PBC identification material and the organisation's cash procedure before including an uncertain piece in a completed operational total.

Small paper values do not all share one outcome

The fourth-series five-jiao and one-jiao notes are not fifth-series issues, but they were not among the items named in the 2018 cessation notice. Production keeps them as Legacy Denominations: valid low-value paper that may appear, but not an ordinary fifth-series drawer assumption.

The two-jiao note and old paper one-, two-, and five-fen values are excluded. They appear in the stopped-currency record. Optional and Retired therefore describe evidence-backed lifecycle differences, not a general rule that all old small paper is either valid or invalid.

Fen accounting does not prove everyday coin frequency

PBC's current JR/T 0162-2018 circulation-quality standard includes specifications for one-, two-, and five-fen coins. That supports countable optional rows. The ordinary fifth-series overview starts its coin set at one jiao, so the page does not claim that fen coins belong in every working drawer.

Enable Legacy Denominations only if a verified optional note or fen coin is physically present. One jiao contributes 10 fen, five jiao contributes 50 fen, and one yuan contributes 100 fen. Integer conversion keeps a combination such as three one-jiao coins exact without floating-point rounding.

A repeatable renminbi Cash Count

Count from ¥100 down through the coins, verify the physical groups, and only then compare Cash Count with Expected Cash. An Over or Short result should trigger an independent recount, not an edit designed to manufacture the expected answer.

The worked example uses two ¥100 notes and three one-jiao coins. Its ¥200.30 result is generated from 20,030 integer fen by the production calculation and formatter used in the locked CNY calculator.
