PHP-specific context

Paper and polymer designs share a face-value row

BSP says the First Philippine Polymer Banknote Series circulates alongside paper New Generation Currency notes. Material and design do not split a verified note into separate subtotals at the same face value.

The ₱20 note and ₱20 coin remain different cash kinds

BSP is removing the low-use ₱20 note through natural attrition while the ₱20 coin is an ordinary current piece. Both remain countable, but their physical quantities must stay in separate rows.

Legal-tender collector cash is optional, not ordinary drawer stock

BSP records limited non-circulation notes and commemorative coins at unusual values. A surviving legal-tender issue can be counted when verified, but an older demonetized design with the same numeral is not revived.

Coin payment limits do not cap a Cash Count

BSP Circular No. 1162 places legal-tender limits on coins used in a single transaction. A drawer, safe, or prepared deposit may contain more, so inventory counting still totals every accepted piece.

The PHP Cash Counter totals Philippine peso notes and coins in exact integer sentimos. Sort the physical pieces by kind and face value, enter a whole non-negative quantity for each group, and compare every subtotal with the cash in front of you. The page and locked calculator use the same reviewed BSP denomination data.

Count paper and polymer together by face value

The ordinary default notes are ₱1,000, ₱500, ₱100, and ₱50. The default coins are ₱20, ₱10, ₱5, ₱1, and 25 sentimos. BSP's New Generation Currency pages, reviewed 28 August 2026, establish those working values and the current coin series.

BSP's First Philippine Polymer Banknote Series entered circulation alongside paper New Generation Currency notes. A verified paper ₱500 note and polymer ₱500 note have different material and security designs, but the same cash kind and face value. Put both in the ₱500 note row instead of creating design-based subtotals.

TheCashCount cannot authenticate a banknote or decide whether its condition is fit for recirculation. Use BSP identification material and the organisation's cash procedure before including an unfamiliar or damaged piece in a completed Cash Count.

Keep the ₱20 note separate from the ₱20 coin

The ₱20 transition is not a simple replacement switch. BSP introduced an ordinary ₱20 coin and is removing the low-use ₱20 banknote through natural attrition. Existing ₱20 notes remain legal tender until they become unfit for recirculation.

That makes the note optional and the coin default. It does not make them one physical input. Twenty ₱20 notes and twenty ₱20 coins contribute the same amount, but a cashier must still reconcile two different groups. Enable the optional note row only when the drawer actually contains notes.

The ₱200 note has its own low-use boundary. BSP ended its production in 2021 while confirming that existing pieces remain legal tender until unfit. It is therefore countable behind Legacy Denominations rather than excluded or shown as a normal assumption for every drawer.

Treat unusual collector values as verified exceptions

Philippine legal-tender cash includes limited, non-circulation issues outside the ordinary note and coin set. Production keeps the ₱5,000 Lapulapu banknote and eleven commemorative coin values optional. Some pieces are precious-metal or limited-mintage collector issues, including the ₱10,000 coin used in the worked example.

An official face value does not make a collector piece common, and the printed numeral alone does not prove it is current. BSP also identifies demonetized older series and specifically demonetized ₱2,000 and ₱100,000 Centennial commemorative notes. A surviving legal-tender commemorative coin must not be used to revive a withdrawn note or older coin design with a similar value.

Identify the exact issue first. Count a verified legal-tender collector piece in its optional row, and keep a demonetized or uncertain item outside the operational total. This calculator reports face value; it does not estimate collector or metal value.

Low-use sentimos and payment limits answer different questions

The ordinary coin set keeps 25 sentimos visible. Ten, five, and one sentimo coins remain countable but are optional because BSP evidence documents very weak use or natural attrition. Optional status preserves exact cash without pretending every drawer routinely receives these pieces.

BSP Circular No. 1162 separately limits how many or how much coin must be accepted as legal tender in one transaction. That payment rule does not impose a maximum on a drawer, safe, till bag, or Cash Count. If the business accepted the valid coins into inventory, total the physical pieces and apply payment or deposit policy afterward.

Integer sentimos keep even the rare low-value combination exact. One sentimo is stored as 1, one peso as 100, and no floating-point decimal is involved in the addition.

A repeatable Philippine peso Cash Count

Count ordinary notes from ₱1,000 down, then coins from ₱20 to 25 sentimos. Enable optional rows only for verified low-use or collector pieces actually in hand. Check each subtotal before comparing Cash Count with Expected Cash. If the result is Over or Short, perform an independent physical recount instead of changing an entry to force the expected answer.

The worked example combines two ₱1,000 notes, one optional ₱10,000 commemorative coin, and three optional one-sentimo coins. Its ₱12,000.03 result is generated from 1,200,003 integer sentimos by the production calculation and formatter used in the locked PHP calculator.
