The current set is wider than the ordinary default drawer
CBC's New Taiwan Dollar Notes and Coins page, updated 28 August 2026, lists five current notes: NT$2,000, NT$1,000, NT$500, NT$200, and NT$100. It also lists NT$0.5, NT$1, NT$5, NT$10, NT$20, and NT$50 coins in circulation.
The default rows keep the familiar NT$1,000, NT$500, and NT$100 notes plus NT$50, NT$10, NT$5, and NT$1 coins visible. The remaining current pieces are available through Legacy Denominations because official guidance documents their low use or an unusual listing boundary. Optional does not mean retired.
TheCashCount does not authenticate a note or coin. Use CBC identification material and the organisation's cash procedure before adding a doubtful or damaged piece to a completed count.
Low familiarity does not withdraw NT$2,000 or NT$200
CBC has repeatedly encouraged use of NT$200 and NT$2,000 notes. Its release dated 9 November 2017 says the notes are sound and explains that values built around the numeral two are less familiar. A separate FAQ dated 19 September 2019 provides a route for cases where merchants refuse NT$20, NT$200, or NT$2,000 pieces.
These sources establish two different facts: the denominations are current, and everyday acceptance can still be inconvenient. Enable the optional row when a verified note is physically present; do not call it withdrawn merely because a merchant or machine may not recognise it.
The worked example intentionally uses two optional NT$2,000 notes. A user must enable Legacy Denominations in the locked TWD calculator before entering that quantity, keeping the example's lifecycle context visible.
NT$20 and NT$0.5 need different explanations
The NT$20 coin is part of CBC's current ordinary-coin gallery, updated 24 August 2026, but appears in the same refusal guidance as the low-use notes. It is optional because of documented handling friction, not because its legal or current status is uncertain.
The half-dollar has a different source boundary. CBC's broad currency overview lists NT$0.5 in circulation, while the dedicated current ordinary-coin gallery lists NT$1, NT$5, NT$10, NT$20, and NT$50. Keeping NT$0.5 optional is more truthful than upgrading it to an ordinary default or declaring it retired.
Redemption does not revive withdrawn Bank of Taiwan cash
CBC's direct Redeeming The Old Currency article, updated 20 August 2026, says old Bank of Taiwan notes and coins were withdrawn, except the 50th-anniversary NT$50 commemorative polymer note. Withdrawn pieces can still be exchanged at Bank of Taiwan branches under the stated process.
Exchangeability is not current circulation. Do not put a withdrawn old design into a current same-value row merely because CBC preserves a redemption route. The named NT$50 commemorative exception stays available as an optional note, separate from the ordinary current NT$50 coin.
A repeatable New Taiwan dollar Cash Count
Count from the largest verified note down through the coins, inspect every subtotal, and compare the final Cash Count with Expected Cash. Treat a refusal, authentication, or redemption question outside the arithmetic workflow. An Over or Short result should lead to a new physical count, not a forced edit.
The worked example combines two NT$2,000 notes and three NT$1 coins. Its NT$4,003.00 result is generated from 400,300 integer cents by the production calculation and formatter used in the locked TWD calculator.
